The Volvo Chronicle

Almost a hundred eventful years have passed since the first automobile was put on wheels at Volvo in Gothenburg in 1927, followed shortly afterwards by the first truck chassis. At first, Volvo only produced the chassis with wooden spoked wheels. The cabs and bodies were commissioned by customers from specialist coachbuilders. Since the 1960s, Volvo has played a significant role in the history of trucks in Europe. Many important innovations can be attributed to Volvo. The following chronicle of developments at Volvo Trucks was written by our freelancer Christoph Büch from Berlin. All important Volvo truck models are included in words and pictures.
